Have you ever felt completely invisible? Not in the superhero sense, but in that deeply human way where you're showing up, doing the work, yet somehow no one seems to notice? You're not alone.

The feeling of invisibility touches us all at different points—being overlooked for promotions despite years of service, feeling unnoticed in social circles, or even being forgotten within our own families. These experiences can slowly chip away at our self-worth, leaving us questioning our value and purpose.

But there's a profound distinction we often miss: the difference between being unseen and being unknown. Even when recognition feels absent, eyes are watching. Your children observe how you handle disappointment. That quiet neighbor notices your consistent kindness. Colleagues witness your integrity when no one's looking. Like David—the shepherd boy who faithfully protected his family's livelihood while being forgotten by his own father—your unseen faithfulness matters tremendously.

The true challenge isn't becoming more visible; it's building self-worth independent of external validation. When we anchor our value in who we are rather than who notices us, we discover a resilience that transcends recognition. We find freedom in doing excellent work simply because excellence matters to us.

Ready for a small but powerful exercise? Write down three qualities about yourself that you genuinely value—regardless of whether anyone else notices them. This simple act shifts your focus from external validation to internal truth. Because while the crowd may not always see you, you are deeply known, and your invisible seasons are preparing you for purposes beyond what you can currently imagine.

Speaker 1:

I Welcome back to. They Call Me Mr U and the Inspiration Station. Thank you again for listening to our show. We're so excited about what you've been sharing with us, about how much you enjoy the show. We're excited about it because this is an opportunity that I believe is really important. Out of all of the shows that we do on our brand, we get a chance to speak to you and just encourage you in your everyday situations. A lot of stuff comes across my desk, a lot of stuff that happens in life that I wish I could get into, but some stuff is just that's just not possible right now. But there's so many areas that I think we can encourage each other and this is just one of those opportunities that the Inspiration Station provides. So I'm excited about this.

Speaker 1:

You know there is a propensity for some of us. Maybe, if you don't understand this, try to keep an open mind and still keep listening. Perhaps you know somebody who's in that category that you can help if it's not you. But sometimes there are some people around us who just might feel like they're invisible I don't mean in a superhero way, where they have an invisibility cloak so that they can't be seen by the enemies and they can kind of move around with stealth. I'm talking about people who are trying to be productive, they're trying to function in the circles and the communities, but they just feel like they're invisible. Do you ever feel like nobody sees you? That's the question on the floor I want you to think about. Do you ever feel like nobody sees you? For those that may be ready to jump to a conclusion here, please don't I just come to a stop right here, because honestly, this happens to a lot of people. I personally have been through this myself, so I totally get all of the feelings and the angst associated with this.

Speaker 1:

It's not our fault that we feel like we're invisible at times. You can be overlooked at work. You can be working there for years. I've seen it, I've actually lived it where I worked at a job for a long period of time and I just felt as though people didn't know I was there, in social groups, even in our own families, and unfortunately, to be honest, you may think you're strong and superpowered and nothing can hurt you and you don't care. But for a lot of people many of us, if we care to admit it invisibility can erode our self-esteem and make us feel as though we are not growing, we're not important and we're not growing, we're not important and we're not valuable. What I'm hoping that you gain from this episode is that we reframe what invisibility looks like. We can see it as a challenge, but also see it as an opportunity. I'm hoping that I can express that idea in less than 10 minutes, so we're going to see if I can make that happen. The challenge is definitely on here.

Speaker 1:

There's a big difference between being unseen and being unknown. There are times in our lives and maybe perhaps you don't realize this to be true for you because you haven't seen any evidence, but there's always somebody watching you what you specifically do in life. Your children watch you. Your spouse, if you have one, watches you. Your best friend watches you. Your neighbors, who never speak, they're watching you. The people who've heard your testimonies Online and on social media they watch you. They watch what you post. They watch the consistency Of your posting, what you say, you believe, and they measure the negative posts Versus the ones that Are of faith and encouragement and they make value judgments about that because they're watching. People are watching us all the time. Even though we might feel invisible in public spaces, people are watching us all the time. There's a big difference between being unseen and being unknown. A lot of folks don't know you, but a lot of folks are actually watching. At some point in time, we're going to have to build our self-worth apart from being recognized by people on the outside, especially in jobs and in business circles and in ministry circles. The attaboys and the awards and the kudos they can only take you so far. You got to believe that you have value personally, even if nobody sees you.

Speaker 1:

I share the story all the time about an awesome example of an invisible season that I read about in the Bible. I love it because I really believe it's applicable to what many of you have been talking to me about and what I've experienced myself. There is a man in scriptures that is arguably the greatest king that ever lived, biblical or non-biblical, and that's David, and I share this story on many different podcast episodes, but I think it's still valid, especially for this topic of invisibility today. He worked for his family. Now I don't know what his father and brothers did in regards to things regarding the household and the family commerce. I don't know what they were doing. Scripture doesn't tell us what they actually did, but what I received and what I gleaned from this was that they were in the house doing whatever while David was out working. They were out mingling with the community and making connections while David was working that's what I got from what I read and David had one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

Speaker 1:

It was twofold. It was important because what he was protecting as a shepherd was key to his family's wealth. It wasn't investments in Bitcoin, it was the sheep. That's how the family made most of their money Maybe 90%, I can safely say something around that area. So David's job was probably more important than anything anybody else in the family was potentially doing, as it pertains to vocation, and he was also in the most danger. You're fighting bears and wolves and whatnot. You're in a dangerous situation from the day all the way into the dark of night, and sometimes even putting your head on a rock and sleeping out in darkness to protect the family's wealth from predators, from ravenous wolves, and doing all those things for the family and doing it faithfully and still not being seen. Wow, that's the key of an invisible season.

Speaker 1:

God sent a prophet to his house to find the next king of Israel and the father. His father. David's father brought out all of his sons and forgot about him, almost forgot that he had a son who was taking care of the most important asset in the family. But through some circumstances, david became anointed as the king or the next king, even though he wasn't even thought of in his own household. I wonder what he thought, sitting out there in blazing heat and in utter darkness to protect the sheep. I wonder what he thought. Psalms 34 and 15 says the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry. Psalms 139, 15 says the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry. Psalms 139 and verse one says you search me, lord, and you know me. I wonder what he was thinking being overlooked, being called out of the sheepfold to have a stranger tell him he'll be the next king, to have a stranger tell him he'll be the next king, seeing his brothers look at him like this is the next king him, his father, even forgetting that he was out there working and he was one of the sons and not the hired.

Speaker 1:

Help, I don't know if we're going to get what I intended to get within 10 minutes, but I'm going to say this in closing Even if the crowd can't see you, god does. I invite you to write down three qualities about yourself that you find valuable, regardless of who notices it or not. Don't share it with anybody. You just write it down for you this week. Write down three qualities about yourself that you believe are valuable. If you struggle to even do that, this could be a problem we need to talk about at some point in the near future. But write down three qualities about yourself that you believe are valuable. Even if the crowd can't see you, god always does. David is a great example. I'm pretty sure that you are going to be the next example. It feels like they can't see you, but trust me, you are seen. They don't know you, but you are known. Have a great day. Thanks again for listening to the inspiration station.
